Course Description

The use of Bible verses in this class is not meant to put a Divine stamp on the products we sell, or to imply that using these oils is the Biblical or Christian way of dealing with bodily and emotional challenges. Rather, this class simply sets out to explore the appearance of these oils, and the plants and trees they are derived from, in the Bible, and to tell you a little about the modern versions of the oils and how they are used.

Theologically, “Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture” as theologian James Jordan notes. The primary purpose of oil, then, in Scripture, is symbolic, not medicinal.

Keep that in mind as you read references to oil in the Bible.

The statements in this class concerning the benefits derived from various oils come from those who have studied, tested, and created the oils, not from the Bible. And the Bible verses quoted in this class are there as a reminder that, whether we choose to use essential oils to help in these areas or not, only God can truly bring comfort to us in times of tension, worry, or grief.

References to “meditation” (except for certain historical references) should be understood in the Biblical sense of meditating on Scripture, particularly God’s Law (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:2). No other religious or metaphysical meaning is implied.
